On 4 December, this blog celebrates its first anniversary. Coincidentally it has just reached 20,000 hits, with just under 2,900 unique visitors. The number go up and down depending on the importance of the news, but without doubt there is a steady readership (around 300) who check in each week to see what is going on, including a large number from outside the District, and even overseas. I have maintained my position at the top of the Google website listing which only happens when regular hits are being recorded.  A total of 231 posts have gone up covering just about every issue concerning this town.

It has been quite a ride, and I must say that I have been extremely gratified with the support expressed in a number of ways, even from a number of people that probably disagree with most if not all of the positions I take. I think many just read the blog to get a different take on what is happening on the Peninsula, but mainly around the town.

I welcome criticism, suggestions, or any information that may contribute to providing clarity on any subjet. Comments are always welcome - there have been over 100, but generally this has been a disappointing aspect of the blog, particularly numbers.

I have endeavoured to maintain evenhandedness as far as possible, but it is not always necessary, or desirable. I am opinionated, and I realise that my having some knowledge of the inside running of the Council means that some of its members are irritated at times. But I feel that the blog only has relevance if it avoids the platitudes and back-slapping that characterises some other media. Credit where credit is due of course!  And fairness (within reason) at all times.

I intend to carry on in this manner for as long as long as the hit numbers indicate continuing interest, and in the meantime wish all readers a very happy festive season. My prediction for the New Year - a very hot and dry summer.  I will take a break after the 14 December Council meeting until late January (unless something extraordinary crops up).

Keep up the good work Bill.
To be honest I no longer read the Hauraki Herald as it has become very boring but always check your site.
After reading your stats I am obviously not the only one but dont get to big headed I would think a lot of the hits your site has received would be from the temporary Mayor we have checking up on you.
Ha good hunting my friend

A corespondent who admits to being opinionated is a rare breed indeed as this is as bold a statement as saying you enjoy public sex.

Listen - whatever rings your bell!
I did think about claiming to the contrary, but it did not sound right, and you would certainly have harrumphed!

After his statement one would have to ask Peter whether he is so bold!
Keep it up Bill. It's good to have a different perspective.
