Electoral Returns

With all the brouhaha surrounding John Banks's Electoral Return, I thought it opportune  to take a peek at the local returns as is permissible under the Electoral Act

They were interesting, but not particularly riveting. There are no great revelations - most would not be surprised that Morrie Dunwoodie ($300), Marshall Hutt (and wife) $1,000, C Barlow of Matatoki ($500), P Dawson of Cook's Beach ($750), Warren Kidd ($750) (from whom Glenn Leach  rents his Thames accommodation), and C Linn ($500) of Whangamata contributed to Glenn's election. He only declared $4,800, which seems light, but it is his declaration.

He spent $18,984, most of which went to Communique Publishing in Auckland who seemed to handle all his publicity. No mention of Coro FM that seemed to run a continuous loop of Leach publicity, but that may have been paid for out of the $17,689 that went to Communique.

Adrian Catran raised nothing, and spent $20,000 as permitted. Phillippa Barriball appeared to raise most of her donations ($20,000 odd) from the mussel industry, other than few of her mates like Arthur Atfield who contributed $1,000 - many of her donations were 'anonymous'.  Her expenses were normal

None of the others were particularly interesting.

just finished watching the TV programme Q and A where former Mayor Bob Harvey on the subject of electoral donations - stated that he always paid his own way "because within 3 months of being elected the donors would be in his office wanting a return on their donations"
Very interesting to look at who donated what in the last TCDC Mayoral Elections - particularily regarding Glen 'throw a blanket over Thames and choke it' Leach - his campaign manager now on the District Plan committee [paid position], Leach renting the Kidd unit, also a change in the councils vehicle supplier, and there is more to come-----
Intersting Adrian Catran was not beholdened to any one paying his own electoral expenses , Barriball was chasing the mussel farmers vote [ and with that Sugar Loaf!!] -- and what of what of Minoque Bill???
Promises made pre-election will come back not only to haunt those elected but will [on current Council performance] create mayhem in the out years for the TCDC - the Banks saga will pale into insignificance------

Thanks for the comment.
Regarding the Minogue return - I became distracted by the Public Exluded item described in another post while I was searching. I have to admit that Dal's return became secondary to the melee that was going on, and I left befoire completing. I will return to it (and the others) in due course - I should have made this clear in the earlier post. There was no 'intent' involved in missing him,and I am sure he will not mind in the slightest if I do return.
Your prediction of future 'haunting' is a tasty prospect - I wonder who you have in mind?
