Putting a Price on the Waves

Paul Shanks is away in Bali for a month, but he will be very intertested in the article - "Putting a price on the waves" on p.B11 of today's NZH.

I intend to contact Paul on his return and get his comments on the current state of the Whangamata left-hand Break - Paul was rubbished by the proponents of the Marina during the contentious hearings, and the economic benefits of the Break were totally submerged in the massive amount of evidence in support of the marina. It seemed to me at the time that a complete section of the community was left out in the cold simply because of their inability to quantify the effects of losing the Break.

Now it appears that it is possible to put a price tag the breaks, and to work out the cost of losing them.

I am sure that someone out there will have a view on the current state of the Whangamata Break.
