Straws in the Wind!

If anyone had any doubt previously about who is favourite son in the Castle, read this automated reply that I received this morning from David Hammond to a request for information on unitary authority issues.

"I am out of the office at a scholarship leadership programme this week, returning on Monday, 25 March 2013.

For urgent matters in my absence, please contact Sam Marshall, Acting Chief Executive or my PA Lisa D'souza on 07 868 0329."

Sam is of course well qualified for promotion, but this is the first public indication of who is likely to assume the role of CE when Hammond departs - and there is a strong rumour that he sees himself as being relatively 'short-term' in the role.  Sam is a clear favourite with Leach as well.
