A Double Loss for Thames

Our town has lost two characters this week who will be sorely missed.

The passing of Bruce Oliver and Warren Kidd was not exactly unexpected, but the timing is a double shock that will cause enormous grief around the town. Both have made their mark in their own way, and each has provided a unique input into the life of the town. At 54 and 58 respectively, the passing of both is most untimely.

I was never close to either Bruce or Warren - our paths just never crossed to any great degree, but I have been well aware of the contribution that each has made during the ten years that we have lived here, and I am deeply aware of their intense interest in the future of the town. Each provided input through their respective professions and business’s that reflected altruistic alongside personal interests.

I have no intention of cataloguing the contributions that each made. I simply wish to record my own appreciation of their good works, and their vision. Those who were closer to Bruce and Warren than I will be more aware of the extent of the loss that we have suffered - neither will be easily replaced.

These were good men. Barby and I extend our sincere sympathies to Sam and Liz - may they both receive the comfort of the entire community at this time.
