Murray - Where Art Thou?

Murray has a new job!

National Sales Manager at Power Busines Services -

Information Technology and Services. (Linked-In - 22 December 2014)

This entry, coming as does some 9 months after Mr Foster's departure as Information Systems Manager suggests that all the talk about action that TCDC was going to take against Murray has come to nothing.

This post at the time attracted 17 comments before I closed it down, and emotions were running very high at the time. It was suggested by one that "I had got it completely wrong," and that this would be shown in the course of time. Councillors were told that the matter had been placed in the hands of the Police.

One can only assume that if this was ever the case, that the Police found that there was no case to answer, and that no further action would be taken.

The embarrassment must be intense in the Castle as the end of year comes around - Murray's appointment shows just how far removed from reality the top echelon had become. I highlight here a comment on the post that must surely have come from someone very close to the top:

"Bill you are so wrong on this one (regarding Foster), .and you are going to be supremely embarrassed about where you have pointed your finger when the truth comes out- as are a lot of people who have had their trust abused by this man. They too will be shocked and disappointed. It is for good reason that Council have stayed quiet on this so far, and once due process is finished, you will know that the only integrity you should be questioning in this disgusting fiasco is that of Foster." (Sore-Rib)

I am not about to suggest where I think that came from, but clearly there were some assumptions made at top at the time that they have been unable to follow through. I always held Murray and his abilities in high regard, and would have been staggered had the bunch of bozos running the Council been able to pin any malfeasance of any kind on him - the comparative level of competence was stark, regardless of the series of self-serving reports that followed his departure.

Nevertheless, they were dicing with death the entire time that they were trying to develop their own software through Track24, and later Guru Digital - it simply indicated managerial immaturity, blind faith, and as far as Day was concerned - a moth too close to the flame!

Great to see Murray getting such a good job.

Most forget that the IT department won awards and praise for years before Hammond came on board. Regardless of what is said IT cost less than most other IT departments in the Waikato and year in year out was below or inline with the national average (% of rates and % Capex spend).

Murray deserves to be happy. Glad there's some light at the end of that horrible tunnel for him!

Well done Murray. Has anyone considered how much the temporary IT Manager cost TCDC - who was retained so B Day had someone to do the budget forecasts for Long Term Plan and did not want to lay the temporary off 3 months prior to Xmas. At a cost in excess of $28k per month to TCDC. Where is prudence in this process.
