Medical Indisposition!

In answer to a number of quizzical enquiries as to what was going on with the blog last week, can I just say that I saw the inside of a hospital (Waikato) room last week for the first time in my life. I managed to wrack up an eye-watering range of charges for tests under the Government Health system over the space of a few days that gave me huge satisfaction as a tax-payer, and sobering thought as to the similarity between the electronics in our dish-washer, and those in my head that both mal-functioned in the same week.

The former was apparently due to minute cockroaches that managed to penetrate a Fisher & Paykel magic box, but whether the same or similar penetrated my cranial control unit or not I will never know. I intend to get the pest control people in to carry out whatever procedure is recommended - short-circuiting appears to have a similar effect in both cases, and in each case requires a toxic chemical to be carried back to the nest. The cranial variety apparently has a slightly stupefying effect for a week or two. You will soon see if there is any lasting effect - it is called late onset epilepsy - minor if one-off, but serious if repeated.

All I can say is that my experience of the NZ health system over the period of a week was just incredible. The care, kindness and professional competence displayed was of an order about which I had had often heard described, but never experienced. Outstanding, unbelievable and exceeding all my expectations in every regard. I underwent a chopper evacuation from Thames at 1am about which I am totally oblivious. I thought I had awoken at 11am in a five star hotel room with a whole heap of grinning people staring at me - that certainly can cause confusion, but it was all uphill from there.

Thank-you to anyone reading this that had anything to do do with my re-wiring, and return to the land of the living. I now have some fairly long term restrictions on my driving, so any help in that regard will be appreciated. I obtained an up-right bike from Paki Paki yesterday that will serve most of my needs, I hope.

Inexplicably, I am blessed with a better half who knows me better than I know myself, and who has laid down a few ground rules, and a multitude of friends who have rallied to the cause, but in general I am back to normal, or will be so in a few days. Please forgive any wandering logic in my posts in the meantime. It shouldn't take too long to restore circuits, and eliminate those cockroaches.

All the best in your recovery Bill, maybe this is a warning that you need to pace yourself and take time to smell the roses along the way.

Take care and god bless
