Natural Character Variation to District Plan

Submissions on this overlay close on Friday.

This follows its earlier withdrawal following a rage of submissions on the original, inspired by the usual extremely vocal defenders of private property rights who predicted doom and disaster arising the original proposals, mild as they appeared to the casual observer.

The variation now proposed identifies 87 areas of high and outstanding natural character, affecting 584 properties totalling 9,700 ha in private ownership. This is roughly 4.5% of the the total district land arae.

This will be basically the last chance to get your view on this proposal on the record - hearings of course will follow in the New Year.

It would good if those who want natural character preserved, even at some cost to individual land owners, were to avail themselves of this last opportunity to be heard. You may be sure that those affected, and those offended will be heard loud and clear. Members of the District Plan Review Committee will surely welcome some balance in the overall scheme of things.
