Old Kopu Bridge Staggers On!

The last ditch stand by the promoters of 'retention' continues to 'muddy the waters,' but least Hauraki DC has made its attitude clear.

While our Council continues to equivocate by 'leaving the door open' to the Historic Kopu Bridge Society in its futile efforts to provide impossible guarantees regading future maintenance of the bridge, the HDC have made it quite clear that they want nothing to do with such an outcome, and just want NZTA to get on with the job.

Hopefully the resource consent can now be pursued without further interference from the HKBS, and the long awaited demolishing can proceed. But don't hold your breath - our Council has a particular way of prevaricating and avoiding issues if votes are seen to be at stake - and if you were wondering, Peter French has shown that he is a past master at this manner of dealing with difficult issues.
