NZ Transport Agncy to Fund Piako 'Clip-On'

It is certainly is a 'red-letter' day for the K2K section of the Hauraki Rail Trail with the announcement today that the Transport Agency will fund the 250m crossing of the Piako enabling the K2K to be completed by April 2017 (perhaps optimistic in view of the complexity of the project).

Although the right noises had been made, there was never any certainty that NZTA would come to the party on the crossing, so all associated with it will be breathing a sigh of relief.

Today's presser mentions other sections where funding remains unclear, but overall it is good news for a project that has been plagued with doubt, and issues from day one. I don't resile from my past criticism, but they pale into relative insignificance with the NZTA grant.

Mayor Goudie mentions the Kaiaua to Auckland section - perhaps a little prematurely for reasons surrounding doubts about ATEED's future, but that can wait until another day.
