Scott Simpson In, or Nearly In!

Scott has secured the Statistics portfolio, (and Associate Environment and Immigration) outside Cabinet - the first step of getting into Cabinet, and somewhat overdue in view of his long-standing and loyal service right through the Key years. He appears to have generally kept his nose clean, but inexplicably appeared to get up Key's nose - possibly through Cameron Slater claiming him as his "best mate" in Parliament - talk about being dammed through your associations. He can now spar with Nick Smith on Environment, and Woodhouse on Immigration.

Mark Mitchell is the big winner with Defence as Jerry Brownlee moves to Foreign Affairs.  But what a dammed shame that Bill was not up to moving Nick Smith out of the firing line, but he has at least lost the overall house building programme. It is his responsibility for the RMA that is killing National, and Nick is doing them no favours there.

Well at least Scott now the opportunity to shine his CV for further promotion, just as long as English can lead them back into power in September - not a given by any means.
