Remuneration Authority Submission

Council has their latest submission on alterations to the Remuneration Authority seeking adjustment of the current rules that apply to elected members various allowances to consider on Tuesday, along with various other administrative issues of limited interest to the general public.

All appear reasonable, but as you can imagine, none suggest a reduction - the Authority seldom approves council requests for adjustments, but there is no harm in trying and the reponse usually depends on changes in the membership of the Authority, so that it does no harm to put in a bid.

No one gets rich as a councillor, or board member, but there are a few who clearly get their main income from this source. It is essential that rate-payers have the opportunity to review these bids - this one only concerns allowances - the one relating to remuneration is of far greater interest, and sometimes brings out the worst in grasping members when it is debated.
