Aquaculture Report

This comprehensive statistical report that was presented yesterday afternoon to about 60 attendees from all over the Penisula, and elsewhere involved in the fishing industry was remarkable in the it barely mentions finfish, and certainly avoids any discussion of the contentious issues surrounding potential  pollution that has plagued the industry elsewhere.

The Report is an interesting read, and puts the industry in perspective, but I noticed that there was no mention of the CMFA President Gilbert James's warning a couple of years ago that he believed that capacity for farms had been reached due to limitations on access to the basic feed-stock, or plankton, in the Gulf. I understood him to have claimed at the time that this explained the reduction in per hectare production. There was no mention of that yesterday - just rah rah-boostering of the potential.

Oh well, what would I know - precisely nothing!
