Transfer of Fire Assets to Fire and Emergency NZ

This paper, along with one on a new all-embracing Cocessions policy, were two at yesterday's meeting that led to acrimonious discussion, and a somewhat embarrassing admission by staff that there were errors in the rather complicated document that required correction before acceptance.

With anything to do with fire brigades, their are strange but well entrenched sensitivities over ownership of assets - particularly engines and equipment, but also buildings that have been built by local subscription.

There is no way the new set-up can operate unless it has control, even if not ownership over these assets in order provide a satisfactory service to local communities where volunteers are already becoming scarce.

I won't get involved in the argument except that the use of Transfer/Use" in the document was enough to stir up some skin-deep passions amongst members - particularly Clr Fox (yet again!).

Fox was again prominent in the discussion on concessions which admittedly concern his area probably more than any other. He was most concerned about the lack of consultation over the allocation of concessions without reference to the effect on local businesses.
